old school gives up some goodies

not sure why I have never hunted this school before, guess I forgot it was there, it is about 20 minutes from my house so not too bad. It is dated 1916 on the front and it is still in use. There is a open play area and a ball field, the ballfield is literally infested with pull tabs. At first I started on a gold quest and was digging the tabs, hoping for a ring. Then I wandered over to the open grassy play area, started getting clad here and there. Kept working farther and farther away from the school.

No old coins yet.............I was clear at the edge of the school yard when I got my first wheat, 1953, kept cruising along and I got a nice deep signal, down about 7-8" pops out an indian 1891, but it is corroded real bad. Oh well, still fun to find. Few more yards I get a deep quarter signal, I am saying under my breath, let it be silver, well it was a nice shape 1935 Washington. Then just a few more yards I got another real deep signal, dug down to about 8" and got a 1916 wheat.

I was out of time and had to leave, but plan on returning to this site in the future, I am sure there is more goodies here to be found.

I put a small dish of peroxide in microwave till it is bubbling, on my microwave that takes 2 /2 min. Then drop penny inside and it will fizzle like an alka-seltzer tablet, when it is done fizzing, take out run clean with water and rub dry with towel almost all crud should come out, if not repeat with clean peroxide

Very nice!

I would like to see that penny after a peroxide treatment. Any chance of the Indian going blond......?

I did not peroxide those wheats, they cleaned up good enuff with just water. If a wheat or indian has a nice green patina I do NOT put it in peroxide because it will take the green away!

Nice finds, Terry. I will try the peroxide thing and see if it works on some of the coins I find. Keep searching the school. If the school site is old, you know there is more old finds there.

I have a 3khz coil coming for my x-70 I traded my DD coil for it that I simply do not like. It should hit harder on those deep copper and silver coins, will go back when I get it
