Old school gives up some Mercs and other goodies...

Hunted this morning at an 1894-founded High School. Never hunted there before; went with two of my hunting partners, though one is a bit hobbled with a sprained ankle so he only detected a short while. Trash was fairly dense; we started out with stock Pro coils, but eventually switched to 6x8 S.E.F. coils (both my partners hunt with E-Tracs).

For the day, my "healthy" partner found three Mercs, several wheats, a couple of tax tokens I believe, and a VERY nice (but bent) silver ring. He is going to look into having it fixed. My other partner, in his short amount of hunting time, managed a tax token. My first target of the day was a worn 1917 Merc, and I thought I was on my way :) -- followed it up quickly with a '42 wheat. However, aside from some clad, the finds dried up a bit through the middle of the hunt, when I managed only another wheat. Toward the end, after switching to the small coil, I did strike silver again! This time, it was the '34 D Merc; also found a folded-in-half 1 mil tax token.

Overall it was a fairly productive hunt -- but unfortunately, we hunted most of the ground around the school which has not had dirt work done/fill dirt brought in. There is alot of ground left, but it's all been excavated. It's worth another trip, though, ESPECIALLY since we are BONE dry. Digging was near impossible, and detection depth was not great. After (I should say IF) it eventually rains, the conditions will be better and we may be able to pull a few more keepers.

Thanks for looking,

Steve

Well done Steve! That 1917 merc sure was in circulation quite a while for it to be that worn.

WTG 66 i wana do that??? Mickfin

Nice finds - especially since the ground was so dry. It's dry here in NE OH as well, despite the torrential rains we had this Spring and early summer. HH

Looks like you had a good day of detecting and you got to share your finds with friends too. Doesn't get much better than that. WTG!
