Found a very small park with a tot lot, abandoned volley ball poles (no net), a few picnic tables and a tennis court. It is a block long and about 300' wide. It took me 5 1/2 hrs. to make four round trips from end to end (the block length). I got 88 coins........53 pennies (yeah, I dig zinc! but, I did get two wheaties, neither of which were as old as me), 17 nickels, 11 dimes and 7 quarters. I was rubbing the dirt off of one of the nickels and saw a buffalo and thought, "Wow! A buffalo nickel." Then I find out it is a 2005.....that just ain't right! I only hit a small part of the park and figure there has to be something good out there! I was digging 'foil' today, hoping for the best, but, all I got was foil. I've had my detector about two months now. One of these days I'm going to find a coin older than myself!!

I know the feeling Roland,the parks I hunt have been pounded to death,but I still seam to scratch a few old coins once in awhile,nothing to really brag about mostly from the 40's and 50's. But its still a good feeling when they come popping out of the hole!! There are times I get so involed when I do stop to take a break I suddenly realize I have been detecting for 3 or 4 hours straight!! haha. HH, rick in mi.
Thanks, Rick. I'm glad to hear someone else gets as involved as I do, looking for that next 'good target.' I went back to that same park for about an hour this evening.....not a good neighborhood, so, I wanted to leave before dark! In less than an hour, I came away with 5 quarters, 3 dimes, 5 nickels and 5 pennies.......and a big honkin' man's SILVER RING with a SAPPHIRE stone! Well, I guess that is what it is. The ring is stamped ".925" with some sort of symbol after that that looks kinda like "<<" except run together. Any idea what that means? My camera is not at home right now.......I'll post a pic when I can. I figure it is probably some cheap plated costume jewelery, but, it has been worn a lot, because the bottom of the band is worn rather thin and the ring has taken on that characteristic finger shape, instead of being round. I don't care if it came out of a gumball machine, it is my first ring!!

Haha All I have ever so far found are cheap rings,but boy does my heart pound when that sucker comes popping out of the dirt!!!!!

Look forward to seeing the picture of that ring. Then only .925 ring I have found was a frog ring but I am like you I didn't care what it was it was good. Hey I find coins all the time that are older than me, but I am only 16. Just kidding, here in North Texas it is hard to find a coin older than me.

Sounds like your doing great. Glad to hear about the ring, don't worry you'll start hitting the older stuff, try to find out from the town how old the park is and what was it before it was a park, remember the CYO camp i'm doing was there in the 50's but checked it out and it was a resort in the late 1800's. Looking for older coins sometimes takes a little cleaning up to find the deeper hidden ones and cleaning out the new coins on the top is like cleaning the tabs out to get to the older stuff ." No junk mean lower Disc and higher SEN and easier hearing" I would say the ring i solid Silver 925 or 950 means Solid Sterling Silver the mark is most likely who made it, probably Mexico the 925 is whats important. you could track down the maker by the mark but that could be like looking for a needle in a haystack. And that 925 ring is as great a find if not better then that silver dime your looking for so badly. Real glad to hear you got a winner. NOW POST THE PIC WE WANT TO SEE IT...
Went back to the little park today, dug 53 coins in 3 hrs. AND, one of them was OLDER THAN ME!! (just barely) Yay. It's a 1944 wheatie with crisp detail. AND, to make the day even better, I got my first silver coin!! Double yay! It's a 1963 Rosie and, once again, very crisp detail. It amazes me how the true silver comes out so clean. When I turned that plug over, there it was, just sparkling at me.
I'm sure this is borderline laughable to all the experienced folks, but, it is a thrill to me. My F75 standard will be two months old next week.....this is my very first locator. Next thing on the agenda is to find some gold and a coin minted prior to 1900......an 1800's gold coin would serve both purposes very well. I have learned a lot about the F75 in the short time I have had it, I'm beginning to learn its' language. It still lies to me on occasion. I dug a lot of foil today, most all of the good signals with a VDI of 20+......they were all foil, no gold. I know you have to dig foil and tabs to get to the gold, my time will come. Right now I am elated with what has transpired thus far! I really love this hobby!!

Rol, Try air testing a couple of 14K gold rings, I think that 20 Disc # is a little low, avg.gold ring is about nickel setting. You might be digging unnecessary trash. I've got small gold at a lower setting but the majority of them were nickel range. These 2 cam in at 31 and 33 with nickels notched in.
Shooter, I did exactly that shortly after receiving my machine. In fact, I posted about it and you were part of the thread!! http://www.findmall.com/read.php?37,1293334 I tested a very small stud earing....it didn't register unless I was almost touching it with the sweet spot of the coil. A small ladies gold ring, hit at 23. A large men's wedding band held steady at 33. I had iron notched out, tones at 3H, sens at 85 and that is why I have been digging foil and always dig nickels. In fact, got 5 more this afternoon, but, no gold.
Those are some nice rings.....did you dig those or just air test them?

No they were dug,first week I got the LTD. If the 23 ring was air tested at 23 it would read a little higher when in the ground due to moisture and halo effect of the soil. The soil has has the tendency to pick up properties of the object and it makes the signal a little stronger.
