Omega 8 with 11 in.dd verses Gamma 6 with 5 in dd

Took a very small 10k gold ring this morning, so small that it would not fit on my pinky finger.
On the Omega with the 11 inch DD coil it rang up as a solid 91-92 no matter how close or far away from the coil it was.

On the Gamma with the 5 inch DD coil it rang up a solid 49-50 no matter how close or far away from the coil it was.

I was sort of surprised.

either way, those consistent signals are worth digging no mater how low the number is.

That's why hunting for all The Jewelry is so hard ......... you pretty much have to dig the, foil - nickle - pull tab - zinc, range to get all the jewelry

I think every piece of jewelry that i have dug so far has been a very consistent number except for the occasional chain

That's really strange. The two coils shouldn't be that far apart on the same gold ring. Slap the 5 inch DD coil on the Omega and see what you get.

Although I have only dug a couple of gold rings with the Omega, neither one came in anywhere near a 90 reading with the 11" coil on. One was a 10k large mens band and it was in the nickel range. Admittedly your test is a nice lock on reading and certainly in the dig me range, but does seem like a very high reading for gold IMHO. HH jim tn

A reading in the nineties is what I might expect from a huge silver ring, but I would not expect anything much above 70 for a gold ring, and that would be a very large gold ring (more than 10 gm). My own air tests on the Omega put small gold rings in the low to mid fifties, and the highest reading I got was from a large 9k gold ring (6.91 gm), which, judging by the colour, has a fair bit of silver in it, was 71. An even larger 18k gold ring (over 11gm) gave a reading of 68 (more gold and less silver/copper). Hope this helps, HH

The class ring on my avatar was found with the G2 and rang up 67 to 72. I hope this helps

Ok, went out in the backyard and ground balanced both machines. Laid the 10k gold ring on the ground and the omega with the 11inch coil rang up 49-51 sometimes hit a high tone of 92 not very consistent, more 49-51 while laying on the ground

The Gamma with the 5 inch coil still hit at 49-50 very consistently

both machines ground balanced out at 62-63 here in Indiana

Gamma with the 11 inch coil was hitting at 49-54

Maybe indoors isn't the best place to evaluate a machine :clsoedeyes:

Sounds a lot better, thanks for the feedback. Still not sure why the Omega was occasionally bouncing up to nineties, could be emi, I suppose.That sometimes happens in the filed with my Omega, but usually it only hits the nineties once before it then locks on to an ID for the target. It sounds though that yours was locking on sufficiently for you to be able to identify the ring (as a possible) if you didn't already know what it was. HH, Pete
