Omega 8000, 8500 question on ground grab

I tried the 8000 outdoors for the first time today. One thing that immediately puzzled me coming from the F5 is that when I push the ground grab button, the detector doesn't beep. At first I thought the ground grab didn't work but it does because the ground phase numbers change and settle as the coil is pumped. Doesn't the 8000 or 8500 beep while pressing the ground grab button ? I'm so used to the F5 beeping every second or so while the phase lock button is held down while pumping the coil. Just checking to see if this is normal. Thanks.

I can say right away that I like the pistol grip of the 8000 a lot more than the grip on the F5. I'm not sure if the 8000 is lighter but it seems that way to me. I'm missing the continual ground phase readout on the F5 though. The graph bars and the arrows going up and down on the 8000 are not as useful. I hope to get more time on it next weekend.

No beep, I usually GB in all metal (it's easier to find a target free spot to ground balance in that way) set the sensitivity to half way and adjust the threshold to an audible hum, you should be able to hear the ground response level out as you pump the coil. After GB'ing set the sensitivity to your desired level. If you are not used to doing it in all metal it may take a bit to get comfortable with it... watching the GB number helps.

Oops forgot you have the 8000 without a threshold control. It still works tho.

Thanks Jackpine. That's usually how I ground balance. It was the lack of beeping that I thought was a defect. I'm so used to the F5 beeping. Thought they would respond in the same way.
