omega 8000 display?

I've been looking on ebay trying to get an idea of prices for used detectors. After searching the forums here I've read that the Omega is a good one with version 5 and 6, and that 4 can be quite chatty with emi issues. Anyway there's 1 omega I seen and the lines on the display are red and not black. Hope I described that right. Before you cut it on there's the lines separating the different targets an item could be and ID etc.. on the display. These lines were in red and not black. Is that a sign of an older model having the version4? !st one I seen like that and reason for asking.
Thabks for any info

The only 8000 I saw with red lines was an early release model.. Do not know if it was a version 4..
A better description would be screen separation lines for your question. Embedded on the screen.

Ah ok thank you. Didn't quite know what to call it. lol Im just going to assume it's the V4 then. Thanks again

In the Teknetics line, the T2 'Classic' is one I rank near the top, but the Omega 8000 was my personal favorite from them. I got my first Omega in March of 2010 and it was the Version 4 and had the red-colored section border. The next three Omega 8000's I owned were also Ver.4 units, but they all had the black-colored display section borders.

Most iof the time I ran all of them at a maximum Sensitivity setting of '99' but there were times and places, in some urban environment settings, where outside sources caused EMI and I had to reduce the Sensitivity to regain stability. No big deal and usually not a major loss in performance, either. I heard the Ver. 5 and Ver. 6 Omega 8000's are supposed to be a little quieter, but I haven't owned or used one yet.

Since the Omega 8000 has been discontinued, I would think their used-market price ought to be very reasonable. I know I am trying to locate a dealer or someone with a brand new Version 6 who would like to work a trade towards a brand new 'Classic' T2 because I have good memories of times afield with the 8000 for the four years I used the Ver. 4 specimens I had. I'm trying to find one with a round 8" Concentric coil as I already have my 5" DD for the trashier sites I hunt, and I figured the Omega 8000 would be a good complement to my current detector arsenal, especially to use as a 'loaner unit' for friends and family.

Don't be too concerned about the Version number, or EMI issues because the 8000 is a very decent Coin Hunting detector. I know that during the period when I owned Omega 8000's I also had several other detectors, competitors models, but the bulk of the coins and gold & silver jewelry I found came my way when using the Omega during that period. I will say, however, that I wouldn't get a unit with the red-colored borders simply because it 'looks' older and I prefer the newer productions with the black-colored design.

Good luck finding a detector you want, and enjoy getting out detecting with it.

Monte, when you had your 8000, what coil would you mostly hunt with ?

I don't think you would have difficulties finding someone to trade a 8000 for your T2. Finding a brand new 8000 in the USA might become a difficult task though. Still lots of 8000's for sale here in Canada but I'm not sure they can export to the USA. I know I tried to buy a 8000 from Kellyco a while back when they were going cheap and they said they couldn't ship to Canada. It had something to do with distributor legalities.

I owned an Omega 8000 for 4 years and sent I t in about 2 years ago and Teknetics installed the new connectors for all my coils ( 5DD-11DD- and the original 10 inch elliptical. And upgraded the software to version 4. I am not sure of the original version.
I found a lot of coins and really enjoyed this detector, especially after having shoulder surgery. It is a very well balanced and light weight machine.
This pass fall, I sold this unit, with the 10 inch elliptical, with the intention of buying an Omega 8500 and using my other coils that I had with the other one.
BUT, I got an offer I couldn't refuse and bought another Omega 8000, with both the 10 inch original and a 11 DD. I use selling the new 11DD that I got with Otis brand new and still has the registration card to mail in.
It has the version 4 software.
So my thought is to resell this unit, with both coils that came with it and buy the 8500.
My question is. should I send this unit in to get it upgraded to version 6 software, or sell it as is?
Is the version 6 that great of an upgrade?
I haven' tried it, except to see that it operates correctly and it works just as well as my old one.
I thought about just selling the new 11 inch DD coil and then selling the rest of the detector with just the 10 inch elliptical, but not everyone agrees that the 11DD is the best one going, but in my opinion it is.

I also just bought a v4 omega and am wondering the same thing.
Do they even offer a upgrade and is the cost worth it?

I tried to get my 8000 upgraded from version 4. Was told by FT representative they no longer upgrade the 8000. The upgrade requires physical parts as well as reprogramming. SUCKS!

Software version upgrades are sumetimes done because of a component change. A key component becomes obselete and has to be replaced with a similar but different one. The characteristics of the new component make a software change necessary - even the circuit board layout may require revision.

It sounds like this might be the case in the version 4 software change.

Even if offered I don't think I would pay very much for an upgrade. Just sell it and buy a used v.6 but my V.4 is just fine..

I agree mine is the V=4 and not a emi issue that I have not been able to overcome by making adjustments where needed . Not saying the upgrades are bad just saying it all depends on the areas you constantly search . In city's yea maybe in the country woods and farms its not a help the Omega is as good a machine as any in my book JMHO

After using mine I'm happy with it and emi where live is not an issue no more than other machines.
