Omega 8000 Fisher F5 coil questions

Well-known member
I already own a Fisher F5 with stock coil, 11 DD coil and Ultimate and I like it. I had a chance to get an Omega 8000 V6 (with standard concentric coil) for cheap so I pulled the plug just because I want to try the form factor of the Teknetics. I know that coils for these detectors are supposed to be completely interchangeable. My question is: Coils are interchangeable but are they exactly the same coils ? I ask this because I often see the 10" concentric coil and 11 DD coil for the F5 at a slightly lower price than its Omega counterpart (at a lot of online dealers). I don't understand the logic in this. Why would someone pay 10 or 20$ more for the Omega coil when they can get the F5 coil for less ? I gather the coils are exactly the same with a different sticker but are they really ?

I mean would I get any type of increase in performance from a Teknetics 11 DD coil on my Omega compared to the F5 11 DD coil on same machine ?

Thanks to all.

In the "Greek" aka "Fratbros" searchcoil series, searchcoils of the same size, shape, and configuration are electrical identical. However, the cable connector may be different, ya gotta make sure about that. For searchcoils that are the same except for the label, pricing may be different due to different marketing strategies and different costs associated with different distribution channels.

Thanks Dave. I'm talking about the same screw type connectors for both coils. What I find slightly puzzling is that the Fisher counterparts are almost always lower in price sometimes by a few dollars and sometimes by a lot more. Sometimes the price is not even close. Just yesterday I saw the 10 concentric coil for both machines at an online dealer. The one for the Fisher was 35 dollars less than the one for the Teknetics. In light of your answer, there would be absolutely no reason for the consumer to buy the "Teknetics" counterpart.

I believe the Fisher F-5, Goldbug series, (NOT Goldbug2), and the F-19 are also compatible. The F-19 however can not use concentric coils, and some of the F-5 coils can not be used on the higher frequency Goldbug.
Fisher's web site has a compatibility chart http://www.fisherlab.com/hobby/detector-searchcoils.htm it is at the bottom of page and is wide, so need to scroll across.
The pin pattern for the F-70 and F-75 are also the same and seem to work, but they are not listed as compatible.
When I wanted the 13" ultimate coil for the F-19, I had to buy one listed for the Teknetics Greek machines.

The Fisher site would be more useful if the chart included compatible products by Teknetics.

Did you get to try the Ultimate coil on your F-19 ? How do you like it compared to the 5 X 10 it comes with ?
