Omega 8000

It has automatic and manual ground balance, it also has 2 audio ports for 1/4 and 1/8 headphones and a programmable target id system as well.

The F5 has auto ground balance and manual as well. Deb is probably right on the head phone jacks. Discrimination can be done with the knob, notching or both. The ergonomics of the Omega 8000 with it's upright handle is one difference. The F5 has separate gain and threshold controls, where the O8 combines them. The display for ground balance setting is numeric on the F5 and the O8 uses three bars. The F5 has a confidence meter that differs from the O8. Both operate at the same frequency.

Either is good. I like the separate gain and sensitivity on my F5. When EMI is present, you can decrease the sense and increase the gain (transmit power) and still get good depth. I like the looks of the O8 better and it is easier to use. But I wouldn't give up my F5. The O8 came after the F5 and may have some improved circuitry since it uses 1 9v battery compared to 2 for the F5.
