Omega and foreign silver

Well-known member
I hit the Military housing site this morning just as the sun was peaking over the nearby tree line. I opted to hunt one of the trashiest area's of the site, the edges of parking lot slabs. Such spots apparently were "watering hole" gathering places as they are heavily trash laden with tabs, soda and beer bottle caps, foil, and the like. I ended up hunting all morning with g b 82, as I couldn't find a clean spot to get a good g b. Although I have recovered dozens of varieties of foreign coins on this site and hundreds of U S silver coins, I have only found 9 or 10 foreign silver coins...of some amount of silver. This morning, however, I recovered 2, along with a 1946 Rosie. One was a 1936 British Six Pence and the other was a 1940 Australia Three Pence. Earlier in the week I had also recovered a 1945 Philippines silver Ten Centavo. In between the 4 silvers, I also recovered 2 1959 Mexico Diez Centavo's. Both t959 coins, however, came from different spots on the site. Marbles and Hot Wheel types of toy cars are also common place on the spot. Besides g b being 82, sen. was 99, 1 disc, and d3 and d4 tones was in use. Although many Omega users know this, I continue to be near astounded at how deadly the Omega and 5" coil combo truly is in the trash. If this combo gets but a hint of a good target among all the trash, it will let one know with a tic and quick number flash. It really is a deadly coin shooting duo. HH jim tn

Nice haul you got there! I hope I can use my Delta with the 5'' this weekend! How did all the foreign coins get there you think? Maybe from foreign Military men?

HH, Eric.

Holland.

It is a U S Naval housing site that was used from the late 30's to 1985. I suppose after over sea's tours they brought foreign coins (and jewelry) home with them and they were then lost on the site. I've got coins from probably two dozen countries. Thanks, HH jim tn

Very interesting Jim and seems to be a very good spot! You know, here in Holland we only do detecting on the beach, woods and farmland. I never saw somebody detecting for example playgrounds, parks or other sites. So I guess there must be a lot left on all those public grounds. I always say to myself that I have to try that.
Detecting farmland is more private you see, you can hide more from people.

Jim, I cant vouch for the English 6d, but the Australian 3d is 92.5% silver (i.e. Sterling)...nices finds all round.
