Omega.....Fact or Fiction

Hi all....Been reading some post by others on the Omega. I've read were the Omega can hold it's own against the T2 and F75 reported depths on a dime at 11 to 13 inches with the 11"DD coil on it. Going to make a detector purchase soon. I have a F5 and would like a step up from it. If the Omega is getting the reported performance of the big boys then I'll save $300 on the price of the T2 and get the Omega. Seems like from what I read that it is more stable in EMI then both the T2 and F75. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts!

for me in my ground dimes from 7" and 9" and quarters ranging from 10" to 12" all with fairly accurate if not spot on ID. Based on my deepest dime, dug yesterday BTW, I would guess 10" absolute max in ground for disc mode and the ID would be off. It really likes the deep quarters so a guess of 12-14" would not be a stretch in good ground that is.

The good thing about the omega compared to the t2 is that is has notching. I like that when I don't have a lot of time and just want to cherry pick a site.

I have both machines.

I never had the money for the T2 so I never really read much on it .....It doesn't have notching ??.....Good to know .....Jim

The Omega is capable of that level of performance but it will largely depend on and vary by conditions and the targets themselves. If a detector can hit a 12" dime, that is not to say that every coin less than a foot deep will be located and recovered. Believe it or not, I actually dug a silver dime with the Delta and 11" DD that was over a foot deep. So far that was a one time thing but it's nice to know it can do it.

Fact or fiction? You decide.

Yes, although the general rule is that a detector that lives up to its claims by the populous will also be the most popular, just plain old common sense, the Omega is the exception. Everyone else is paying hundreds of dollars more for a detector that isn't any better this this one, and they haven't figured it out yet. The one well protected secret that only a few know about, and now you know.

OK sorry for the sarcastic response. While we would all like to think our detector is better then most others, the fact is one can look at popularity and get a fairly accurate idea of what tends to work better for more people. Heck, thats how they become popular in the first place. It is possible for anyone to buy a $49 detector and bring home lots of good old coins and stuff, it's just not very likely. Key words being not very likely. Yes it can hand does happen, but you sure would want to base your decision to by a detector on the few that have done well. A little common sense can go a long way toward choosing the best detector for you.

My Gamma located a small CW pistol ball (probabely about 30 caliber) at a measured 8" deep. Mt wifes detector didn't even make a peep on it. The Gamma audio was strong on it too...but TID was all over the place as I have found it to be on relics. Oh and BTW my sensitivity setting was at 93 and with stock 8" coil.

No with the T2 it is an all or nothing proposition. When you turn on the discrimination, everything below the level you set will be discriminated out.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. If you are looking for gold coins then you want foil and above anyway. If you want to skip pull tabs, then you lose nickles too.
