Omega Ground Balancing - disc or AM difference? :detecting:

My Omega's been sitting in the garage since I got my F75 LTD (weeks after I got the O:geek:, so it never got a fair shake.

I've decided to let the LTD sit in the garage for a while and put some time on the O8 + 11" DD. One question I had, I see references to doing the fast grab GB in both disc and AM. The manual somewhat alludes to using both methods, although it has a lengthy how-to on the AM method.

For the deepies, I take it doing the AM method (setting the sens high enough to get a threshold hum) is the best way to go? Or is there no difference between the disc and AM GB?

Thanks,
Brian

I set up using the AM ground grab, and as I am detecting , if I run into an iffy signal, If the gb bars are not close to the mid line, I push the up down arrows,to balance it, then rescan the target. The target audio becomes sharper, giving me a better Idea if I should dig or not.

I'm with Bugg, if it gets out too far I manually adjust on the fly, and yes, that's while in disc mode. If you do it in AM, with the ground grab you'll wind up at the same GB number so why waste the time switching back and forth ? takes seconds off my digging time.

It will adjust the GB very close, to be sure, but if you want to "fine tune" the GB setting for on-the-nose or maybe just slightly positive, you should do it in All Metal auto-tune so that you can hear the threshold audio reference while using the + and - touch-pads.

Remember, too, that if you are sweeping over a metal target, especially ferrous but it doesn't matter, you will see bars above or below the ground reference line. Do NOT adjust the GB when sweeping over a metal target. Move the coil to the side and quickly pump the coil. If the bars are gone, he GB is functional. If you're not over a meta target and you're getting an 'off-balance' reading, then Ground Grab and get back into action. You can also do a fast manual GB, but it needs to be fast. If you hold the +/- touch-pad too long of a moment it will speed through the adjustment range and you'll be way off.

Thanks everyone. I've been using the AM method, and it's easy enough, just takes a couple of extra seconds, and if it's more accurate, it's time well spent.
