Having used a DeLeon for the past 7 yrs or so I'm used to using a machine that has a tid/vdi readout to go along with the sound, after awhile I learned that if the tid jumps around and I didn't get a solid vid lock the target under the coil was some type of trash especially if there was a fuzzy sound at the end of the tone. So the same kind of things were happening to me yesterday while using the Omega and based on passed experience with the other detector I ended up not digging several targets ( I did dig some through out the day where the tid/vid signals weren't to inconsistent even then didn't find anything that was a "good" target) I would also be sure to change sweep directions in case a good target was being masked by a piece of trash. Anyway I was just wondering if ya'll had the same types of signals and results or did I possibly miss something good? Jimmie

Omega sounds and signals

I'll be interested in seeing the answer as well, yesterday was my first trip out with the omega and being use to swinging the mxt I pretty much did the same as you only dug the signals that was less jumpy.
I did get a couple coins fairly deep one was about 7" and I was impressed with the id is wasn't jumpy maybe a couple numbers but not all over and this was with the stock 10" coil.
Still got a lot of learning to do with it but from what little time I did get using it I feel it's def gonna be a keeper for me.

The visual is ok to look at if the target is not really deep or masked by a near target. All machines don't visually ID well on deep targets. Instead let your ears be your best signal on to dig or not. Audio usually comes in the best weather the target is deep or masked. Try to hear if its being masked. Masked targets will almost always have jumpy id #'s. Try to separate the good signal the best you can and hit it from several directions.

I don't think I've missed anything but at some point I'm going to go back over the area's I've been hunting with my Cibola and 5.75 just to make sure I didn't miss anything with the other 2 detectors. There is one thing about the Omega that I don't like compared to my DeLeon and thats when I swing the coil over a target thats right on top of the ground it goes into over load and doesnt give me any info even when I raise the coil up, with the DeLeon I would get a raise coil message and then could raise the coil to get info on the target. What I finally figured out to do was when the machine went into overload I'd find the spot with my pro pointer and dig it up that way, one of the targets dug like that was a penny and I think the other was a quarter but I'm not sure, so I guess I need to try to find those spots again to make sure I didn't leave something good behind.
Monte, I think I was getting to know the detector by the end of the day its not quite the same as the DeLeon but close enough that I felt comfortable using it. I didn't have much problem with the DeLeon falsing and for the most part in the areas I've hunted unless there was a problem with EMI I was able to run it with the threshold maxed out and sensitivity into the orange most of the time. I did have some problems with it giving me sharp pops and tics at the site I was hunting with the Omega but then I was getting the same sort of responses from it so I think there's just a bunch of trash just under the surface thats making the detectors react. On the overload problem I would try raising the coil up but still couldn't get a good reading on what was in the ground, it was either overload or nothing. On the iffy signals with the wild flucations I'd sweep from different directions and then do the same thing with the disc turned up trying to see if I could get a good lock on the target sometimes I could and would dig and it would end up being some type of trash usually it was a wierd shaped piece of metal. I only have the stock coil with the Omega so at this time I'm unable to see how it would do with the smaller coil, so for now its going to have to be the 5.75 concentric on the Cibola for those trashy areas, hopefully I'll be getting some tax money back and if so I'll by another coil or two for the Omega and see how it does with them.
