Omega version #

Pepa

New member
I just bought a new Omega from a well known online dealer, and when I hold down the pinpoint button and turn it on the number 4 comes up. I thought the latest version was 5 or 6? ( Isn't the version 5 less noisy than ver. 4.) Am I doing something wrong?

Version 4 was manufactured before 4/14 for sure because I just got a new 4/14 one with version 6 on it. What's the serial number? Sounds like old stock.

Someone mentioned 15khz filter and deeper on quarter sized objects. I see that in airtest and is a little quieter.

However the iron grunt seems a little different and disc at 16 no longer mutes it. So that "bug" was squashed. Version 5 and 6 seem to be the same other than version 6 has the embedded serial on bootup.

I don't see any serial #.. If it was manufactured before 4/14 that's over one and a half years ago. I thought that I would be getting the latest version... I'm a little miffed that they would send me stock that old without telling me first.( not a very good way to do business) ...

I just bought one about a month ago and it is V6

Same thing happened to me. I bought new in June and was told it was the latest version and turned out it is a V4.

Question TP63... Did you complain to the seller? also does your unit run fairly quiet? and what kind of depth do you get? thanks

No I did not complain to the dealer. At some sites at 99 sens it runs quiet as a mouse at other sites it may have some chatter but nothing that you can't hunt through.
I haven't really had any emi issues at all and I am running the 11"DD coil. And as far as depth goes it is just fine. It does chatter when I lay it down to dig a target but that stops when you start swinging it.
Most of the time I turn the sens down when digging just have to remember to turn it back up. Like you I too was a little miffed but the detector is doing what I wanted it to. Hope this helps

Pretty much the same here. I keep my sensitivity to about 75 because higher than that is like supertuning a Vaquero and I get great depth. I sure hope FT aint selling v4 detectors as v6.... That would be bad, kind of like the VW mess.:pinnochio

send me an e-mail. I tried to PM you but was unable to. If you would, contact me at: monte@stinkwaterwells.com

Thanks,

serial is in the battery compartment or on the box. first 4 numbers are month/year of manufacture.

Thanks detecting MO I found it... Aug 2013. They sent me a 2 year old detector.. (thanks Kellyco)

Pepa, they sell by model not by a version and boxes are not marked by what version they are. I talked to the VP, call in and talk to a sales rep, tell them you talked to Treasure_hunter and you want to exchange your version 4 for a 6, we looked and found one that shows it is version 6 when we fired it up and it is sitting in the VP office.

Hope this helps...If you have any questions or concerns shoot me a pm or post it here...

I had a V4 as well. I found it to be a pretty good machine, but like you I would get some EMI occasionally. I might get another one someday.

Thanks Kellyco for taking care of my problem so quickly. Great customer service.... (and thank you "Treasure Hunter" ) The new Omega is perfect. Now if it would just stop raining here in the mid Maryland so I could get out and try it out....

I just bought an Omega 8000 from KellyCo. and its a Version 4. @pepa, who did you contact to get a replacement with Version 6?
