They have had the two jacks, ¼" and mini, but there will be a production run change in time to eliminate the mini jack and also to add a headphone jack protector/plug. Likely similar to what you see if you find the G2+ photo somewhere.

At the time of me buying my used Omega the reference between the newer version and the older version (at that time) was, a single headphone jack was the earlier version and the double headphone jacks was the newer version. So, when I bought mine I looked to make sure it was the later model, or to say it had the double headphone jacks. At that time nobody ever mentioned software versions.
But, all that information came from forum's including this one, so I don't have any HARD evidence of that.

Yeah, I guess that these latest detectors mentioned are now coming out with just the 1/4" h.p. jack with a plug cover for it----the F-19's are like that also.----- I kind of liked having both size jacks on them myself, it made it really easy to rig it up for the Auvio wireless h.p.'s if you wanted to use them (without a jack adapter).--------Del

mine is a V6 has both jacks, cant compare to an older modal re: EMI as this is my 1st Omega.

I got my first Omega in March of 2010 in a 3-coil package. It came with the ¼" and mini headphone jacks. The only Teknetics models that I ever saw with only one jack were the Alpha and Delta that were mass marketed through places like Sports Authority. Personally, I never saw an 'original' Omega with only one jack, but some folks on the forum state there were.

Since I got my early Omega version almost five years ago, all of the Omegas I have seen featured the two headphone jacks. That's how they have been and are, but as I understand the progression of improvements, there will be a change in the near future to only the ¼" jack but it will have a good weatherproofing plug/cover should you not be using headphones.

Upgrading a older detector to a later version that has either a single jack or double jack could confuse things a bit. Apparently we don't know Jack.

Maybe Monte can clear all this up since he's a dealer. What do jacks have to do with version numbers?

Well, I for sure don't have any FACT about the headphone jacks, but when I started my search for mine and reading forums I was lead to believe that the second headphone jack was added shortly after the first release of the Omega! But Monte has a history of a pretty early Omega so at this point I would go with that, at lest it isn't just here say!

Mud, It looks like the headphone jacks don't have anything to do with what software version is in the Omega, and as far as I know it never did.

Now! getting the firmware updated in an older Omega is something I just went through!!! (it didn't happen)

Anytime a detector goes in for service if there is an update available for it, they update it.
Maybe certain models! but in my case not with the Omega.

My Omega pretty recent became non-functional (broken) I contacted First Texas's service department and obtained a return number for service and specific instruction on packing it, labeling it, and properly making out a problem report of ANY and all problems with the unit. I did all of that and in the problem report I also "Clearly" included a request of them upgrading the software if an upgrade was possible, I did that based on forum gossip that they were NEWER firmware version of the Omega being sold, and they were also forum members claiming theirs were a newer version than mine. I never set any limit of cost in the problem report nor in any other contact with their service department. (I had a clearing house to acquire and set aside $150.00 for the repair)
When I got my Omega back as repaired as it was, it was still version 4. (I just checked it again and its STILL ver 4)

Okay, now I'm speculating! it may be possible that if a certain chip or IC is at fault for the failure and that chip or IC is one that houses the firmware and it gets replaced then the replacement "Chip", "IC", or entire "Circuit Board" would have the newer firmware version?? Which could???? explain why mine was sent it as version 4, got repaired and was returned a version 4, because those chips or IC's didn't get replaced in mine.

Sometimes first Texas will change the version number when the parts supplier is different. Maybe that's the difference between 4 and 5 with 6 getting the new style start-up. Just a guess though. I've owned 3 version 4s and they all performed great as long as you weren't near power lines or high emi areas. I've never seen an earlier version than 4.

We still don't know. I even sent a email to the company for a 'expert' reply, still nothing.

Hi Guys I bought my Omega not to long after Monte bought his and talked about what a great value that three coil set up was and he was right as always and I have never looked back on that purchase or ever even checked what version it was because as long as it keeps working as it always has, to me it doesn't matter what version the Omega is for they still in my opinion are at the top of the list of best to buy.Enjoy the Omega and know if a problem ever does come up First Texas will take care of you..thanks..Markmac
