Hi everyone,
Went to a different local park today. I knew I was in for trouble when I arrived because all the grass throughout the park was dry and dormant--no watering at this park. I pulled the detector out and started swinging right off the nose of the truck next to an old 3' diameter Oak tree stump. I was less than 6' from the truck when I got what sounded like a possible good signal in the middle of what sounded like a iron mine field. I carefully worked my way around all the iron signals to try and isolate the one good sound I was occasionally hearing. Sure enough, I found a small window about 2" wide that I was getting a nice solid sweet sound with 12-45 showing about 5" deep. Now the fun part--digging in this granite like soil. After about 20 minutes, I got down to 4" or so and I checked with the X-1. Yes sir, she was telling me I had a good target off to one side and a bit deeper. I carefully excavated in the direction of the good signal and out came this beautiful 1944-S Mercury Dime. I think it has to be my best looking dime yet. The rest of the hunt was uneventful with me digging several sweet sounding rusty nails and a couple pieces of clad. That's ok though--this Merc made it worth it.
Thanks for looking and good luck on your next hunt!
