About froze my fingers off looking for this 1833 penny this afternoon. So as soon as I dug it I shot home to thaw out! That's three large cents from the same field this week and this one is the best of the three so I'm happy.

dang neal i ve been looking for a large cent for 30 years found my first a few months ago and you have found 3 this year ...hummmm. what part of the country are you in? those dont come easy here in the mid west ... nice job tho don

I've only found two of those so far and they were both banged up from 140 or so years of being knocked around by plows and such. One was an 1846 Tall Date Variety and the other was 1851. As beat up as they are, they're both in my album anyway.

nice find neal. i bet that one would clean up nice. a little cordless less drill motor with a wheel will knock that crud right off. a couple years later it will retone. check out large cents at coin shows. they come in all colors and tones. the copper they used was different from batch to batch.
 
There's lots more goodies in a place like that with all the iron and such a huge area to search.

I think in order to find 100 I'll have to dig a jar of them somewhere. I've only got about 25 or 30 total from 9 years of detecting.

..I have only found 22 or so in the 6 years I have been at it. I love finding them for that reason. They just don't come around that often. Nice find.
