was out yesterday and found this coin here in morayshire scotland in field about 1 mile from a road it came out about 8 inches down with a nice clear signal . its a beauty of a coin i particularly like the ships . obviously it has not been in the ground long maybe a year or so. so far ive been impressed with the v3 but im waiting for my ironage site to be harvested and it will really be put to the test...............................

A few months back I found a 1925 Russian 50 Kopecks coin in the yard of an old cotton mill house in rural South Carolina . . . . . 8 inches deep. . . . . love to know the story behind that coin finding its way from where it was minted.

what date was these coins minted as the main date looks like it was minted in 2000 but the celebration date is 2007 seven years later it doesnt seem to make sense ...

Hi, It was minted in 2000 that quarter. They decided to come out with a set of quarters where the reverse represented 1 of 50 American states. I think they were minted in the order that the states became states and there were only about 10 states done per year. It was a very popular set with amateur coin collectors over here as many, many people wanted to collect all 50. The obverse for each state is unique and generaly contains something the state is famous for. You have the coin for Virginia which is perhaps most famous for the first permanent settlement in north America -- Jamestown[e] -- named after your King James I, I believe. There is a very interesting book that talks about an interesting archeaological dig in the area called "Martin's Hundred" that you might enjoy. There are several good books on the original Jamestown Settlement and the re-discovery of the original fort -- excellent reading. The quarter is commemorating the 400 year anniversary of the establishment of the settlement. I believe your Queen was here for the anniversary. My lovely wife is British and she insisted that it was the 300 year anniversary....I bet her $100 on it and she never paid me! Anyway, it was probably dropped by some "Yank" after a few pints, but I'm a little curious how it got so deep so fast. Ironic that you found that one out of the lot! We travel back to Bath where she's from every year or so......if you want I'll bring you the whole set, polished to a mirror shine in my vibratory tumbler if you take me you detecting one day! the field was ploughed the last couple of years and one of the crops was potatoes (tatties over here) which means the field was deep ploughed maybe as deep as 12 to 14 inches and also destoned . i like fields that have had tatties in them as there is a good chance of somethings being brought up nearer the surface . a field thats was previously dead can be a different matter once there has been tatties harvested and also the year after as well . i found two hoards of roman coins due to this some of which are on my website

99% of all the items on the web site have been claimed as treasure trove or under the treasure trove system at the moment mores the pity as both gold finger rings are of a wearable size . the gold and sapphire is about 22mm across and the loop design gold ring is 20mm across
