She looks to be in very nice condition after sitting in the dirt for over 100 years. Make sure you keep that beauty in a safe spot. Congrat's on the Rare Coin and Continued Good Luck and HH.
Nice find with the 1821, which coincidentally brings up an interesting (and rather asinine) story.
Back in the mid 90's, when I was a teenager (I'm a young'un) I got permission to hunt the front yard of an old house a couple towns over.
I had a garrett GTA500 at the time, my first real detector, and I think I got out there with it slung over the handlebars of a bike, which ended up causing the detector to get severely damaged in the course of a bike accident sometime later, but that's another story.
In any event, I hadn't been finding much of anything in this yard, and then suddenly got a nice signal and dug up an 1821 large cent, which I think was the oldest coin I'd ever found a the time.
Since I'd promised to show the owner of the house what I'd found, I showed it to them and explained what it was (but didn't get into details about the date, and at the time I didn't realize it was a relatively rare date)
A couple weeks later I get a call from them asking if I can bring it by and drop it off for them to have somebody look at it, and complaining about why I didn't tell them it was a valuable coin. Naturally since they weren't knowledgeable about coins they looked at the book under MS60 or MS63 or another higher grade and figured it was worth $750. Tried to explain to them that it being dug seriously affected the value but didn't get anywhere.
So I dropped it off, and didn't hear anything for a while, so I called them to ask if I could have it back, and they finally let me have the coin back (I'm guessing after trying to find a coin dealer to buy it for $$$ and failing because it was a dug coin, though it was in good condition, probably at least VF)
In retrospect I'm pretty lucky to have gotten it back. Unfortunately you never know when some dickhead is going to act like that.
And that is why I recognize the mintage total from that year....
