Opinions Wanted On 3kh coil X-Terra 705

I don't know if they'll make one or not. All I know is that I've mentioned (asked.....groveled....begged) for a small DD at 3 kHz for nearly 4 years. Technically, I don't know if it's even possible. But if they could make one with the separation characteristics of the existing 6-inch DD, operating at the "silver killer" frequency of 3 kHz, I have to think it would be my "go to" coil for most of my coinshooting. Opinions are light butts! We all have them. That said, the 3kHz 9" Concentric coil is great on coins and at greater depth than the stock coil but I'm not sure the investment over and above the stock 7.5kHz 9" concentric coil is warranted, for the difference in additional depth. I've found quarter size targets at 8"+ and I'm not sure I really want to dig much deeper than that. In my opinion, you'd be better off purchasing the 6" DD 18.75kHz coil for those trash laden parks and playgrounds and or tight areas that the larger coil cannot access.

My wife and I have now put in about 14 hours of field hunting with the 3 kHz coil and the verdict is in for us.

It's a keeper!

We found our first Standing Liberty Qtr., 11 inches deep in the sand at our favorite fresh water beach!!

Other silver 2 Wash. Qtr's and 5 dimes at 7 to 10 inches deep along with plenty of clad.

I will keep this coil on the X-70 with the stock coil on the X-705 and the 6' HF coil in reserve when needed.

Good Hunting

Hey Denny, how was the weight of the 3 kHz coil? Did you notice any difference from the stock coil, or about the same for weight and balance? Also, have you taken the stock 7.5 kHz coil along and tried it alongside the 3kHz coil to see if there was a noticeable difference by chance? Just curious. I have also been thinking about getting a 3 kHz coil. Thanks.

Cors,

Yes, the 3kHz coil does" feel " heavier to me and a little different in balance ( bottom heavy).

I read digger's comment and I am sure he is right, I didn't weigh mine.

Maybe it's the weight distribution in the coil, I don't know but it does feel different swinging it.

The one thing I do know is that my wife and I really do like the LF coil.

It is a coin killer, a little deeper on coins, it seems and a harder hitter except nickels maybe.

MF coil better on gold.

I ground balance between 30 and 40 where I hunt.

If your ground is right it will most likely increase your coin finds.

And remember this is from a guy who loves the stock coil.

Hope this helps.

Good hunting

Denny

Cool! Thanks Denny. I still have some room in my back pack for a couple more coils - may as well get 'em all! :clapping:

Coil weight varies from coil to coil. Even two coils of the same size and frequency can vary a bit. The weights I posted for my 9-inch concentric at 3 khz and 7.5 kHz are accurate. But from what I've learned, there is more "copper" in the lower frequency than the mid frequency coils of the same size. The weight differences I noted are largely attributed to the amount of epoxy "filler" used in surrounding the windings. JMHO HH Randy
