Optimum Settings help

James21170

Hello to all.

I've recently bought an Explorer 2 and was after some help on the settings.

Has anyone got any advice on what are the "holy grail" of settings are or does it all depend on the type of soil, conditions on the day etc..

I'm new to the hobby so my apologise if this question seems a little over simplified.

Kind regards, James.

James --

Bryce(IL) -- one of the Explorer gurus on this site -- has not chimed in yet, but when he does, he'll tell you to run "factory" settings for several hunts, and get used to the machine and what it is saying to you (comparing what types of targets you dig with respect to what the machine was indicating...)

He will strongly suggest that you do this -- don't start tweaking until you get used to the machine. There is really not a "holy grail" of settings, IMO, as it does depend on type of soil, conditions, etc. Furthermore, it also depends on how you in particular like to hunt, how your particular brain processes information, etc. Something that might help me hear the deep targets better, might be totally foreign to you, and vice versa.

Steve

Thanks Steve.

Yeah i've read elsewhere about running the unit in factory mode until I'm a little more experienced.

Thanks for your comments.

Kind regards, James.

Hi James. Settings that might work for one, might not work for another. I run the eXP 2 with 10X12 aftermarket coil, and use manual sens at 28, gain at 9, iron mask, and smart find with the crosshairs. I'm looking for coins 7-10" deep. All I can say, is to get out there and start pushing buttons. Good luck!

Good morning amc rulz.

Thanks for your comments.

I spoke to the guys from the club who again suggested running in factory settings but they'll advise in the field so to speak on any tweaking that might be needed.

I'm getting used to the crosshair feature and how that works.

It seemed a little complicated at first but after reading the book for the umpteenth time and using the machine it's clicked.

The coil I'm using is the FBS800 for more info if that helps.

Kind regards to all.

Never cared for that 800 coil although it make the ergonomics better and not as nose heavy...Would recommend a larger coil for depth and yep the factory settings in their own right make it a super unit...and time to tweak once you get the jist of what the unit is telling you...Any questions fire away as many knowlegable forum members that will help..
