(OT) Bought my 2nd Excalibur (very long and very sad) :usaa:

Yesterday after a few delays Floyd was disconnected from life support at 1:00pm Eastern. We were told that they had tried to take him off his ventillator and he could make it on his own but about 5 minutes.

He was given a healthy dose of morphine that put him out and then was disconnected. Six hours later he is still going strong. That was getting critical in a bizaar way because his daughters had flown in to be with him and attend his funeral.

So in the meantime, his funeral had been planned for today to accomodate their schedule. There was only one thing wrong. Floyd was still with us! If you read my original post, you may be getting a small hint of what Floyd might be like. Technically, he was in a situation that he would be able to attend his own funeral.

At a certain point the funeral home had to cancel, as Floyd did in fact live long enough. In fact, he made it 26 hours. Like he said before, "he was in shape!"

I spent the night there last night with Floyd. Just like every other time I've been with him, it was time well spent. I got to share with his family the adventures Floyd and I got into. I also got to hear them share with me.

Although he put up a good struggle, he went home to see Jesus at 3:00pm today. As it turned out, I was the only one there with him. His breath drew shorter and shorter and finally opened his eyes and looked toward heaven and then he was there. He died painlessly and with dignity. I was so grateful for that.

His funeral is tomorrow at 12.

I want to thank all of you who prayed for Floyd and I. I felt those prayers and I know Floyd and family did as well. He will be buried at our Church.

I also want to thank you for all of your kind replies and words of encouragement. If you have even been through this, then you know how much it helps.

Thanks again,
Alton

I went to church this morning and the choir special was dedicated to Floyd and his seat was left vacant in his honor.

Ruth (Babe) was in the Sonshine Class this morning. We are going to take an offering to get a large Plaque in his honor.

Also, I have procurred a field for use in metal detecting. Several years ago our club tried to have a special club hunt much like the spirit of the special olympics where each club member was matched up with a kid (I use this term loosely as some of the kids are as old as the 40's). All the items would be on top of the ground and the hunt would be "fixed" to make sure each kid found things. It fell through for lack of a field and helpers for the kids.

I think I have those problems solved, and since Floyd was instrumental in both metal detecting and the Sonshine Class, I don't think there will be any problem naming it after him.

Floyd and I also attend a weekly meeting outside the church at "the Gate" to work with the handicapped. Floyd's request was to have money spent on flowers nixed and sent there instead. So there will be quite a few lives touched with this.

Finally, I have a peace about Floyd. I miss him as many here do, but I'm glad he didn't have to live any long length of his life in a deminished manner. To borrow from the bible, he ran a good race and finished the race strong. He wouldn't want to be here any more and we would only be selfish to want him here to suffer.

A big thanks to everyone who has posted here in support.

God Bless

PS I forgot to mention. Floyd's Excalibur is going "hunting" Tuesday with one of his favorite kids from our church. This young man will become a minister in one more year of college. Floyd always took him out for a meal when he came home and we took him detecting a few times before. He will using the same detector I bought for Floyd.
