Our Daily Bread for Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Nice story.

It reminds me of a man called Brian. He puts out Hymn books week by week, tidies the Church between services, sweeps the paths and rolls up to do any manner of work around the Church. I found out accidentally that he arrived unannounced one Sunday morning at 4.00am. That winters day someone was being baptised at the 8.00am service. Brian turned up at 4.00am to heat the water for the baptismal service (full immersion) so that the person would not have to enter very cold winter water. Probably no one knew that he did it, or that it was even done, except the person who was baptised and the Pastor.

Brian and his wife do all sorts of things like that and have done so for over 30 years to my knowledge. He and she are never noticed, rarely say anything, but are the salt of the earth. How good it is to know them. The first shall be last and the last first.
