We had to go to Charlotte, NC to visit my girlfriends son Adam this weekend and thought I would take the machines along. I called Curt Hollifield who I hunted with at DIV and we planned on a Satuday hunt for a few hours. Adam has never metal detected before and has always loved looking at my displays when he visits so I asked if he could tag along. We met Curt and his buddy Joe and then went to one of their sites. He said that they have found a lot of bullets, buttons and coins. Most of the bullets found were Williams Cleaners. I got Adam set up with my MXT PRO and showed him what to do. Before long he comes up to me with his first civil war relic. It was a Type III Williams Cleaner in great shape with the zinc base. I found three bullets, base of a brass Spencer shell, percussion cap and a brass piece that I have not identified yet. It has three tabs and nice green patina. I have dug these before and still don't know if they are period or not. In all we found 15 bullets. It was great to get out and hunt while visiting away from home and to have someone find their first relic. I want to thank Curt and Joe for the invitation and for allowing Adam to attend. I promised to take them on a good Tennessee hunt when they come up my way to hunt.
