Out of work early...a large cent and a chunk of silver.

I got out of work early today and had some time to get out. I was going to revisit a spot I had hunted before and noticed someone in a yard at a house I have been eyeing for years. I have met this person before, we have mutual friends. I asked him if I could hunt his yard and he said yes. I left there and continued on to my first spot. It was choked with vegetation. I did manage to srape up a couple of things though. I left there and went back to the old house 1730's and pulled the large cent 1849 the Indian is 1896 and the spoon has 1900 on it. HH, Dan

Nice digs dan... Can I ask... What do you say specifically to the home owners ?? I've never tried... but need to start :)

I tell them I am a history buff and that I am into metal detecting. I just ask. I get mixed results. I am probably 75%. In this case, I kinda know the owner. I had met him and his wife before. They are good friends with some friends of mine. I will try and wait for the owners to be in the yard before I ask. I think it is a little less intrusive than knocking on the door. Sometimes it takes years for the right opportunity to arise.

All very nice finds! That spoon looks like it has alot of nice details. Are you planning on trying to straighten it? I know CONDUCTOR7E has had really nice results with spoons he has found-- not sure how he goes about it though. Thanks for the story and pictures.

Thanks for the story and the pictures Dan! Congratulations on the finds!
