Outer Banks

I will be there in June. From what I understand, you cannot use a metal detector from Nags Head south,. Dues to it being a national Park/Seashore.
I don't know yet exactly whee the line is where it is legal/illegal. I have read the line is a whalebone junction.
Anywhere north of that is supposed to be OK.

Good luck.

At the junction of rt. 158 + 64 is a 711, in back of it is Jeannette's Pier, taken over by North Carolina Aquariums, division of North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. You were able to park there. I don't see any info on their website for a parking fee. I have detected from there North on the beach. Route 12 south is at that junction and there is a sign saying you are entering National Seashore. After that you can be arrested. And there are some stiff fines. I am recouping from a back operation hopefully I will be able to get back out. I usually park at the beach access points around Nags Head. I haven't been up to Corolla yet. Best of luck!
