Well my Mojave and comPadre do a really weird battery test sounds when I put in bad batteries. So maybe put a new name brand one in and try it. But sounds like maybe a bad connection somewhere.

Stick a new one in and see how it works before calling Tesoro. If it continues to switch itself, I'd suspect there's some dirt in the pushbutton switch.
Low voltage hasn't ever made mine act weird, but I change 'em on most of my Tesoros when the battery check has a short duration. I say "most", 'cause on my favorite Bandido, it still gives a long check tone even when battery is about to go. With that one, I just replace it after every few outings. I always keep a spare with me just in case..
