I need information on where to get parts for my older bounty hunter model 1. any help will be appreciated. i need a new search coil and a battery compartment cover color gold.

That's a 38 year old machine you're holding, made when BH was owned by Pacific Northwest Instruments of Oregon. Best bet is to find a used one with the parts you need. Looks like the BHII and BHIII use the same parts to widen your search.

BFO designs use very simple coils, if you can run a soldering iron, you could make your own coil in any size you wished!

Making your coil is hard to do. Doing one for a new home made detector isn't to hard cause you can tailor the circuitry to suit it. Putting it together for commercial detector means you'll have to match the inductance exactly cause on a BFO it's part of an oscillator and has to be on a certain frequency to beat with the beat oscillator. Then when you achive that, you have to put a "Faraday Shield" over the coil to minimumize ground effects, and that will change frequency of the coil. Before you attempt better buy a GOOD RF Counter, so you know where you are while your winding coil. In my opinion, this not a project for newbie E.T. But, good luck. Know this though.. I'm a professional electronic tech specializing in mobile radio communications, for many years. I just bought a Garrett Master Hunter, without a 5" coil, and I'm not going to build it. If I can't find one somewhere, I'll forget it. Again best of luck.
