I tried using a coin pattern today. I was hunting a 15 Ft by 35 ft area along a streem in a park. The dirt was very dark and there was a lot of rusted metal and some pieces of aluminum from the ball park fense that was there. I worked the same area three ways. The first was sensitivity at 24, gain 7, and AM. Then again with sensitivity 24, gain 7, and 22 IM. Finally i used a coin pattern since that was what i was looking for. I found i was able to set the sensitivity at 28, gain 9, threshold tones 9 using this pattern. My finds were 4 wheats and a 1895 VF barder dime and a 1911D XF dime. The dimes came in very clear at 8 inches. Sometimes in a really iron trashy area you can benifit from just setting your detector for what you are hunting for. I figure today was about a $150 day for me... man i wanted that 1895 to have an 0 on it.
