These are my grandkids - Jack and Christopher. They went out to play in the back yard after solemnly promising to stay out of the mud. The little one, Jack, is obviously repentant. Christopher on the other hand is concocting an aliba, "well, Mom, here's what happened....................". Notice their black lab, Huck, in the background. Seems that Huck had "jumped on them and pushed them down". Yeah, right.

When I was not much older then our older oldest grandson. Some of my old cuzs con-ed another male cuz( Mike) and my self that our Grandpa needed his Watermelons ( Fruit Stand) nailed down before they blow away and gave us a hammer each and a 5# coffee can of 16 penny nails. Gave us a few minute then ran and rat-ed us out. From what I remember we had about 10 to 15 a each with nails in them by the time Pa-pa and dad got around there.

It was close to the 4 of July 1961, a hot Summers day pa-pa all of us down until he got Full story. What it was the old boys wanted a watermelon but pa-pa said No. They knew if Mike basted one we would get to eat it. that was the ideal behind the hummers. Now Pa-pa had 20 to 30 that if turned bad in the Texas heat turned into small bomb. Pa_pa, my dad, an Uncles Moved a 100 or so melons. This Melons ran 15 to 30 LBS each. They Took the damaged melons one that a time and cut it for us. I think there were six or seven of us boys and we eat 10 or 11 melons they let us stop. After we stop the rest of the family and Biggest part of the Membership of The first Baptist Church of Merkel Finish off the demaged Melon.

I had to attend a the Services of a life friend last month at the little Merkel church. In a Main hallway old photos of different time of the church. Almost in the middle there was a 9 x12 of a watermelon bust with note thinking the Massey boys. With the names Mike, Jackie, Calvan, Dennis, Ray glen,Lynne and Norman ( I am only with the Massey last name). As I stood there laughing so hard I was crying and holding myself up with both hands on the wall. A Little little old was walking by. He told me He had been at the bust but remember the Massey Boys. I stood there and told him about the bust. After the services 3 of the Deacons and the old gent cornered me. They were writing a history of the church and A WHOLE OF THE OLD FAMILY ARE GONE!

Less than was a 3 inch rain on top of it .

The morning of the hunting it was cold and windy. There was maybe 250 hunter are more and 6 Gallons of silver coin on that field,
