PAX AUT BELLUM Sword Scabbard Top

I know this is a gold plated, sword scabbard top piece, but so far I have not been able to date it or associate it with a particular group or culture. I found it at a house that was the first one built in a town around 1870. This home was well known in the area and had large social gatherings, huge weddings, etc, and still covers one square block of property.

All help would be appreciated.

This is from an odd fellows or Patriachs Militant sword I believe. If you google the latin phrase then you should get some hits. It could date from civil war to modern times but by the patina it has been in the ground a while--NICE FIND!!!!!
