penny id readings

just wanted to know if any of you guys get 3-28 or 4-28 readings on any of your pennies? around where i live when i get those readings i mostly count on a dime but have gotten a lot of pennies in the same range here lately. most pennies here read around 7-25 and some of the wheaties read 6-28 or close thereof. dont know if its the ground where i found them or maybe a combination of ground conditions along with how much time the pennies have been in the ground. thanks for all your help and happy hunting.

Yes, I've encountered those readings for cents at some sites. Usually, a cent (older, not zinc) comes in 7-26, 7-27 for me, but I've been fooled when expecting a dime and ended up with the lowly cent.

Next time you dig a 4-28 signal and it is a penny, look at it and see if your coin has a rusty look to it.
I find that a lot in my area......either a rusty look or a really pale white coating on it.

Newer memorial cent pre 1983 will fool a lot of units and come in like a dime, same goes for certain older crusty wheaties. Part of the hobby my friend. Usually the tone of a silver dime will just be a hair mellower to a trained ear...

Most of mine come in at 7 25 or 7 26 and I have dug them at 3 28 and 4 28 but now I dont use the numbers anymore since I got the Emulator anddone some time on it.I like the Smartfield screen now. Good Luck & HH

I think you will find those reading on pennies close to the surface raise your coil a little. a dime for me reads 4 29 if it a surface coin. Also are you running in manual sensitivity say around 25? sometimes that changes the readings on coins close to the surface as well. I even get 1 29 for quarters if my sensitivity is too high. Its like pull tabs in an area..... dig a couple and you know what they arre going to read in that area.
