Pennys,pennys and more pennys

Spotted a boarded up house yesterday. No keep out signs so I hit it todays with the V. First signal in the small side yard was a wheat. For the next 40 mins, every good signal is a wheat penny. I was there for 1 1/2 hrs, came home with 12 wheats and 7 early 60's pennys. No nickles, no silver, just PENNYS. Not really complaining, I just find this so incredibly odd.

Hmm, that is strange...well when i first started to hunt out the foundation behind my dads house I found about 7 wheats before finally finding a rosie underneath a nail. Wasnt sure if it was only because i got the nail signal or the dime signal...i'm sure theres silver there. Maybe hit it at a different angle

n/t

Hmmm...19cents for a hour and a half is about right, most folks didn't even make half of that today!
I would tend to agree with Bobbys...theres gotta be some old silver in there...didja hit any big signals in the back yard like a buried jar?

Bobby, I came back through that side yard backwards, sideways and diagonally. I could not find a piece of silver to save my life. It seems obvious that no one has detected there before, I was finding wheats under nails and pulltabs, maybe I just need to pound it before the dozers get it.

You use the 5.75 dd right? If I were you I would throw on the stock coil and even though it might be a pain, just dig away at whatever sounds good. Do you know if any of those places have been top-filled at all? There could be a chance that some of the silver is just too deep. If anyone detects near you with a different machine you should let them see what they can do and if you get the same results then it must be the area

Mud, didnt get too far from the sideyard, hard to leave when you keep getting coins. I did
Wander through the huge front yard, nothing. Back yard looks like this may have been a meth house. This place sits on a lot surrounded by an old rock fence(real old). Need to look for an old foundation. I will be going back, perfect spot for hidden jar'o coins.

Bobby, this hasnt been topfilled. And I have gotten to where I am not a big fan of the stock coil, I dont think the 5.75 DD lises that much depth. Besides every one of the wheats was 4 inches or less.

I was just making an observation...from my talks with people at Tesoro it seems as though the DD coils aren't praised for depth compared to concentrics. They have their advantages, but I'd assume you would of found silver there if you hit it all at different angles. Tryin different coils can help from my experience.

Historically, coins here just arent that deep. Not to the point where I have to worry about the depth of the 5.75. I am sure this will pick up at 7-8 inches, easy. Coins dont run that deep here. I have found coins past 9 in., with a $55 compass, but that was in a farm field with absolutely no rocks. Thanks for the thought though, Bobby.

Hmm, idk how you couldn't be findin silver then, unless it just isn't there. I would see if someone with a different detector can find anythin

The ratio could go to 15 to one. That's right. You may find 15 wheats to one silver.A silver coin was big money. You guys need to think more.I bet you will find silver there. But the ground is not littered in silver like y'all think.

I've been at this long enough, I would never think a place is littered with silver, like I said, I just found it odd that there were no nickles or even one silver dime with that many war era coins in such a small area. If your losing pennys, your losing other coins as well. The few silvers I've found with this detector sounded off nicely.

I think I'd look along the fence or wall and even on / in it to see if there is a jar or can with a cache hidden.

I've looked at this wall for close to 40 years and wanted to get near it. There has always been someone in there, now the newer house(1940's) is boarded up and is being sold as commercial property. When the weather gets better I'm going the follow the wall line and try working around the yard more.

I don't think if would be aplicable to the era of the house you are hunting, because money had more value back then, but me and my brother use to throw pennys out of our second story window and try to hit various things on the ground. Never would have dared throw a dime out. :)

I agree Bobby. Having used both coils for awhile now, I can say that the 5.75 DD coil is about 1" less deep than the stock coil. It is much better at handling mineralization of course, but the extra depth of the concentric may be the way to go. The smaller footprint at max depth of the concenctric means you cover a bit less ground, but the depth gain will be worth it.
