Permission to hunt??

New member
I've been noticing a lot of old homes and barns that are falling down or have already been removed in the Carolinas. Does anyone have any experience searching places like this? If so how did you obtain permission from the landowner? I'm thinking about knocking on some doors and just asking! Finally, if I get permission what should I do if I find anything? Offer to split or give it to them and take the satisfaction of finding it?

cape fear,

go to your local news/magazine stand and try to find a magazine called Lost Treasure ( www.losttreasure.com ) the january issue has just the subject your asking about and quote the auther on what he says to property owners. the article has helped me get permission to 2 places, too bad i didnt find any thing but trash. its a great article, look it up.

hey fellas, the easiest way to get permission to hunt land is start knockin on doors. choose a decent time of the day and put on yer best face. explain to the landowners that you metal detect as a hobby and dont do it for personal financial gain, this always makes them relax a bit. also tell them you dont leave open holes and respect their property.all of this in one breath! as long as you come across as sincere and stick to your word, you shouldnt have much trouble gettin permission to hunt. a lot of times they will turn you on to new places to go too - be prepared for rejection too though. a lot of people are worried to death that you will somehow hurt yourself on their property and sue them. if i think that its gonna be a hard sell to get the landowner to allow me to hunt his property,i will throw the shared finds thing out there, it usually changes their mind fast. like real fast! new 202 user has a good idea on this, ive tried em all, its just easier to knock on the mans door. ask people at work, making small talk with people you dont know, ask relatives, anybody you think would be receptive to the idea. you might be surprised... good luck and hh
