Personal opinion of T2 15" DD Coil:thumbup:

This is just my view of the T2 15" DD coil. I liked it, 25% deeper than the 11" DD coil and it can cover lots of ground, but heavier. Perhaps a more experienced detectorist than myself could handle some of the problems I had because it covered more area and went deeper. In an area with very little trash this coil would be outstanding. In most of my hunting sites I have trash on top of trash next to the good target, and I have trouble pinpointing under these trashy conditions. It was hard to separate trash from the good stuff. I guess that make sense, because if you go to a small (5") coil it handles the trash and target separation better, but you lose depth. Physics at work here, you gain something, and then you lose something else. I will be using the 11" DD coil until I get smarter at this detecting game.:detecting:

There is surprisingly very little being said on the forums about this coil. I was on the fence about getting one and jumped on a deal in the classifieds here that I couldn't pass up.

My first impression was MY GOSH ITS NOT HEAVY...it's CRAZY HEAVY! I used it for about 2 hours Saturday and it wore my arm out. It actually worked my arm cup loose from all the weight being put on it back there....this rig needs an arm strap or bungi style hookup.

Depth wise...where you really see it is on bigger things. This coil is a plate and shell hunting rig for sure. Now on minie balls I didn't really see much of an increase as far as more depth. What I have seen is better response on the ones it could already pick up with stock coil.

Thanks for the post. Like you said, there is not much discussion about the 15" coil. I made a earlier post asking if anyone had used the 15", but the only reply said I should search the forum for past posts. There might be some post on it, but I didn`t find any. I bought one, and have had it out a few time. I`ll keep it, and use it in the few low trash areas I hunt. Yes you do get a work out swinging it. Reminds me of swinging my AT Pro in the water.

That's a good way of describing it...using a machine in the water. It's not that its overly heavy...just that the T2 & F75 were made to be balanced with the stock coil and this big coil makes it really nose heavy. I've hunted with the Minelab GPX and some of the big coils and the T2 with the 15" coil is more tiresome than the GPX with the huge coils.

It's sort of odd how this coil is doing on bullets. The ones at 8-9 inches that will usually give an iron signal and occasionally bounce over into the tab-screwcap range...with the 15" coil are staying more into the tab-screwcap range from the get go. It picks them up with a little more signal strength and IDs them better but don't really gain much depth on them...for example its still hard to get the bullets beyond 10-12 inches whereas I was thinking it would really sound off on them. On the other hand, the bigger things go into over drive mode. I don't have a plate buried in the yard but with the stock coil I can air test a breast plate at 19-20 inches. With the 15" coil and same settings I'm nearly from the coil top to the control box. Nearly 26 inches or so. This being in 2+ mode and non BP mode.

Thanks for the good report 396nova(Bob). Get a Swingy Thingy bungee cord from Doc's Detecting if the 15" coil is way too heavy to use, being in low trash areas where it was designed to be used in. Also go from Wisconsin to the much warmer far southern USA for the winter time if you can, heheha.

This is interesting Daniel, I would fair to guess that on coin sized objects or smaller the 15" coil probably has not that much depth increase if none at all, but on bigger objects it does have a lot of depth increase.

Also interesting if you or someone else could compare the Detech SEF Butterfly 12x15" coil on the T2 or F75 to the stock coil and 15" coil for both coil weight(heaviness) and depth on both coin sized & larger objects.

What Daniel say's about the balance makes sense. Dave J. worked very hard and used his many years of experience to make the Tek's & F-Series ergonomically perfect. The 15" coil throws all of that great ergonomic design out the window. A Doc's Swingy Thingy is almost mandatory with this heavy coil.

I'll probably stick to the stock coil. I used to hunt with a Whites 6000 Di series 3, and used a 15" coil. With health issues, that would be tough to do now. Informative posts to read, however.
