I live in the Philippines during the winter. I didnt bring my Vaquero. I have my Compadre, Not to good when you get in the wet sand.( I do cover the box with plastic). What I would like to know, Would my V with ground balance work better near the wet sand? A couple other brand MDs I have brought drove me nutty. Please Help Me.

Ken,sorry to say that no single frequency detector will perform in wet salt sand.With the vaq,i would just work the dry sand.Serious beach detectorist usually have a multi frequency,or pi detector like the sand shark for the wet salt sand. O

I tried the Compadre in wet sand. It did work better than expected. Still a lot of falsing and you need to move slower. It all depends on the makeup of the sand. On one beach I didnt have any falsing and on another there was no way I could use it. Good luck

You need at least a dual frequency machine or a PI. or the Excal
The old dual frequency BHID works pretty well on most beaches that donot have a lot of black sand.
A Sand Shark, Sea Hunter, Infinium, Dual Field PI, Are great but no discrimination. The Excal is probably the best multi frequency VLF for beach and in water work

Thanks you guys. I try my Compadre verrrry slow. It helps a little. I really dont go into the water. I waite for low tide. There you have the wet sand. I do have a Tiger Shark back in the states. I water hunt their a lot. I might have to get a Sand Shark or used duel freq. MD. No one hunts over here. But these people do not know what a trash can is. Every thing goes on the ground or in the water. It is a beautiful country, but the trash is bad. The people are wonderful.
If the Compadre is all you have, there is a way to combat the false signals from the conductive wet salty sand. Just raise your discrimination a tad more and experiment, just make sure you will pick up on chunkier gold, forget the small gold because you will have disc'ed it out.
Thats what I do. As long as I stay in dry sand , it aint so bad. I called my MD buddy back home, He has a safare he will sell me. That might be the best way to go. Havent really hunted much. We live to far from any beach. No transportation. Sometimes we rint a car. Thanks for the help.
