PI Questions

I have a CZ70, have used it at the beach, good results. Is a CZ20 a PI machine?? If not, from what I hear, using a PI Machine, you need to join the Miner's Union because of all the digging you will have to do. Is there a way to reduce the depth of the PI Machine so you don't have to dig so deep?? Thanks.....Bud

Hi Bud,
I think the real drawing factor for PI type machines IS their depth capability, and their ability to ignore most ground mineralization. They can simply be used in alot of environments and under alot of conditions where VLF-IB types have problems.
The CZ machines from Fisher are all VLF induction balance type detectors of the multi-frequency "fourier domain" design, so retain good discrimination capabilities that are often lacking in PI detectors. Still, for absolute depth and raw detection power, a good pulse induction detector is hard to beat. Eric makes some of the best, world-class PI machines available if such a unit is beneficial to your type of hunting.
Hope this helps,
Ralph

Would a PI make a decent backup for my CZ70 on land?? In a fairly clean search area?? Thanks Ralph....Bud

Hi Bud:
I have a CZ-7 (predecessor to the CZ-70) and a CS7 PI. I have used the CS7 PI at a fairly clean park before with no success and a lot of frustration. It picks up every little piece of wire, nail, trash, old underground sprinkler system, etc. Unless you are relic hunting in a very clean area where even iron targets are potentially valuable finds I would stick with the CZ-70. It is an excellent multi-purpose detector, where the PI is a little more specialized. The CZ is no slouch at the beach either, just not up to the PI's level there.
Happy Hunting,
John.
