Hi Folks,

Well, they are finally on the way. The new White's PulseScan TDI ground balancing pulse induction (GBPI) detector has been made public with photos at mytreasurespot.com List price is $1595.00

I have anticipated the release of this detector more than any in a very long time. It is the first PI unit that features some ability to discriminate out items although I must caution people it is different than a VLF detector as it lacks true ferrous/non-ferrous discrimination. But still, anything is better than what we have had before.

I'll post more details on this detector soon.

How long do you think it will be before the submersible version is out on the market, Steve?
My Excal needs an overhaul badly and I got a VERY good deal on the CZ-21 BUT I really want the Surfmaster Dual Frequency PI unit.

Hi BDA,

I do not think we will be waiting too long for a new Surfmaster PI Pro. But it is not the same as this unit as the TDI is a ground balancing pulse induction (GBPI) detector.

The new Surf will be the same as the old but tweaked and with the new 12" dual coil. It is not dual frequency but dual coil windings.

There are several issues to overcome in getting the TDI to work in an underwater housing and so I can only hope we will see one eventually. It will be some time away I'm afraid.

A slightly upgraded Surfmaster PI just won't do it for me. I guess I'll just have to be patient until somebody comes up with an underwater TDI. It might be worth it to waterproof a TDI unit instead. Do you think that might be workable, the operating in salt water part not the waterproofing which is pretty easy to do?

Hi BDA,

I'm heading to Hawaii in December and am determined to have an underwater TDI by then. I'm hopeful White's can do it by then but no promises. I already know it works better in Hawaii in the water and basalt then anything I've used there before since that is where I tested it. So White's does it by then or I will.

White's simply has a lot of fish frying at the moment. Getting the land version out has priority at the moment.

Steve, what's the weight like, with the new battery pack? Is it heavier, lighter, or the same as an MXT?

Hi,

Won't know until somebody weighs one. I'm guessing a bit heavier than an MXT, but you can hip or chest mount the unit which is a big plus.

Thanks Steve, I'll keep swinging a VLF until then. I'm still very interested in the TDI so long as it won't have any problems with the salt water. I agree that waterproofing isn't that big of a deal.

It is a bigger deal than you think. Salt water is not the issue at all. The problems are not what you'd think perhaps but are problems nonetheless. Let us hope White's can overcome them. You can bet I'll keep pushing for an answer!!

Holy Nebulous Ned, Steve. I'm not sure what the problems are but if it's a simple as sticking the control panel in a waterproof case then I'm there man. Say it ain't so, Joe. I have a very low mineralization level in Bermuda so cutting through black sand isn't a concern for me, there just isn't any black sand here, it's all pink. Perhaps you could PM me with something closer to the mark?
