Pied Piper syndrome

I keep experiencing the Pied Piper syndrome. When I am at parks and school yards, kids want to know what I am doing and come by to check me out. I like children ok, but having to answer all their questions and maneuver around them makes for slow digging. I don't want to be rude, but would prefer they not hang around after I have told them what I was doing.

Any suggestions as to how to get them to leave?

Just walk away and find another spot.
When I see them coming I usually suspend operations and go somewhere else where there won't be any ankle bitters..
you can always come back .
Dress like a bum and that may scare them away:laugh:
 
I would suggest if you don't want to deal with the kids, don't go places where they are, or at least not when they are there.
 
I avoid kids as much as possible, not because of the questions, but because you never know what one could accuse you of. It also helps that most people think I'm grumpy looking.
 
Get some over the ear headphones, and just tell the kids you can't hear them with the headphones on.
 
I usually go early in the morning before kids start arriving.
 
One thing you don't want to do is be unpleasant to them. That can bring all sorts of other problems. Parents for one.
 
I agree , parents can be a problem if they think their child is done wrong.:argue:
 
Kids are just curious. They think MT's are cool, just like us. Were kids too when you think about it.
I was at a campground a couple of years ago, and a kid came up to me when I was searching around my 5th wheel asking if that was a MT I had, and if I could bring it over to search for an earring he lost. I said "sure," and walked to his site with him. On the way, he was asking as many question about the MT as a scientist might ask an extraterrestrial on how their gravity distortion amplifiers work. (I know :clsoedeyes:) Anyway. I explained it a little, found his earring, even let him try my MT for a couple of minutes, and he was all smiles! After that he went on his way. Took about 5 minutes. If there is allot of kids hounding you, you may explain the workings, and then tell them now need to start searching. Again. Their just curious, and who know. Maybe a few years later they'll be on this forum.
