Pinpointer - $50 range?

Ghalt

New member
I'm thinking that a pinpointer will be my next purchase, but I can't afford a $100 pricetag right now.

I see some Bounty Hunters on eBay for around $50, but was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

Basically all I need is something to probe in my initial hole that I cut since my finds are usually off a little to one side, or deeper than I thought. I'd like to not have to keep widening the hole, but just go in the correct direction immediately.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Get a tinytec pinpointer, they work good and are about $50.

I have 6 pinpointers at home that have split, cracked, gone out of tune permanently, quit beeping, quit vibrating and some only work on warm days. Turn down the temperature a few degree, and you might as well leave them at home, as they can't be tuned anymore. The ones that have to be tuned every time you turn them on have had their variable tuning knobs just plain wear out. Heck, I even built my own, tweaked it and it ran better then the others for about a year, but it eventually joined the rest in the "box" downstairs. My top of the line one interferes too much with my detectors, and is a lesson in aggravation because it has a 60 second delay before it automatically shuts off. You do the math of what 6 x detectors cost.......

Check out the new electronic pinpointer Garrett has put out. Read Uncle willy's report. Garrett put a lot of R&D into developing this new pinpointer. It has solved a lot of the past problems experienced by previous users. Pay now........or pay later.

I hear ya. I'd prefer to pay now. But I like my marriage the way it is. Anything that expensive would cause a disturbance in the force. :starwars:

I'll take a look at the tiny-tec and fisher. Anyone else have any experience specifically with these models?

Nevermind.

Found a Whilte's Bullseye II on ebay for $80. Considering it's normally around $120, and I come in fairly well under that $100 threshold, I'm pretty sure SWMBO* will get over it quickly...and I'll have a quality machine that will last.

Thanks for the feedback!

Forgot to say - I would strongly recommend the new Garrett Pro-Pointer which would last you a lifetime but if you're up against it financially or otherwise you can check into the others mentioned here - but as was stated you get what you pay for. The new Garrett has about the best qualities available on the market currently. Good luck.

My Whites Bullseye lasted only a little over a year, and even from day one I has issues with the battery not making good contact. Below are my pinpointers that just don't make the grade. I too thought I would save $$$ by buying cheap. I did and here is what I bought. And they were all purchses brand new.:rage:

I think there are some good suggestions so far. I like cheap. I have an automax. Catch a deal at Kellyco at the right time and you can get one for free.

I think about what a pp'er has to do and I can't see paying the money for the top brands. Before Garrett's pp'er was mentioned Sunray and Vibra Probe were the coolest things around. Now they are garbage. We haven't even seen this wonder yet. If it is cheap and it detects up to an inch, I am happy. What else do I need a pp'er for? My feelings are the MD'er companies are ripping us off. For the price they ask, it should be completely water proof and indestructible. There isn't that much that goes into a pp'er not even great research. I think my winter project will be to make a pp'er to my specks. I have a small 1 1/2 volt motor. Put a small weight on the side of the shaft and when it spins you have a vibrator for headphone use. I will make it totally water proof, not just it can get a little rain on it. It will be encased so I can set on it and it won't break. If I get that one working right, I will make a interchangeable coil so I can take it under water and detect while swimming.

Quite a scrap pile there my bud, and well used from the looks of things. :) The new Garrett is the best looking one compared to those.

I have 3 Vibraprobes. 2 of the older model and one 570. And yes John, the 570 can interfere with the Ace.

Bounty Hunter pin pointer !!!!!!! Don't!!! Got one don't like it ! Cheaply made ! Thin plactic case / Battery cap comes off easily / lost it one time spent 30 min tring to find it now it is taped in place! Save up and get your money's worth !!

I ordered and received today the Harbor Freight one. I went out today for a couple of hours and tried it out--fantastic! For $15 how can you go wrong? It feels like cheap plastic, but if it lasts at all it's very much worth the price.

HH!
