Pinpointer and Relic Hunting

How many of you relic hunters think the pinpointer probe is needed for relic hunting?

I would think since most of my relic hunting is in the the woods or in fields that I could do with out it. NO need to dig small plugs.

Ive only been out with the Explorer XS once and used an 8 inch coil. I didnt have any trouble at all pin pointing with the 8 inch. Ill be in the woods with it this weekend and will use the 10.5 inch coil.

I got 3 coils with this used machine, 10.5, 8. and 5.

Oh yea. I got mine from kellyco at low cost and it is a whites 120 and it works great.

I wonder why Minelab does not make pinpointers?

I wouldn't be without my Vibraprobe. Because although I am very good at pinpointing the target will all of my machines, the probe is invaluable when you have a deep hole full of loamy disrt and perhaps roots and somehwre in there is a silver dime, a button, or a bullet. The pinpointer makes it much easier to recover so you can move on to the next target. You can waste a lot of time trying to find the smaller targets without one.

The only place I DON'T use a pinpointer is at the beach. Because I have a great big scoop to scoop the sand with and it typically takes a few tries to get the target anyway, but it's sand so it's no problem.

Yesterday I was hunting in a swampy area and the holes filled with water before I could spot the bullets--the pin pointer saved the day. (See my post from yesterday)

Yeah, I've seen that too. I hunted for a couple of years without a pinpointer. Then I found myself asking my buddy to borrow his more and more. Once I got my own, I couldn't see how I had ever gotten along without one. A classic example of "Work SMARTER, not HARDER".
