Pinpointing

still looking 52

Well-known member
Last time out with my brother we were looking for deep silver coins and I discovered that if your target is just off by a little bit when you pinpoint that it also effects your depth reading. Several times I thought my target was in the six inch depth range but actually it was only about four inches deep but my pinpoint was off slightly each time my depth was off.
To help my pinpointing I started using the theory of measure twice and cut once or in metal detecting pinpoint twice and dig once.

The closet distance between two points is a straight line, this is a little more proof of that.
A tilted coin will often times will make the pinpoint off, and the depth reading.

Deep coins will be silent and must be scanned with the loop flat.
A target giving one location in disc that is different than the location in pinpoint can most often be a somewhat vertical nail.
If you have a pinpointer they can save you a lot of time: ML makes one that is ferrous/non.
(especially true on CZ's)
