Platinum Wedding Band in the absence of Gold...

Skully

New member
Ex II Loot

We have had rain to beat the band...
And more is on the way
It sure felt good to get out and loot again..

This is my first hunt fer the gold in 2008...Missed the gold but managed a Platinum wedding band
I have spent a couple days at the old lake....just old silver ( although gold does show there )
The area I looted today... I recently cleaned this area of screamers ( Fishing weights, screw offf caps, cans, and clad )
Went slow and it paid off

I believe the Wedding band reads Love Always Ronnie 5 - 16 - 58

I figure your the guy to ask,and I'm sure size matters but is it similar to screw tops? Have I asked this question before? Thanks in advance. Oh, and nice batch as usual.Keep'em coming

Platinum eh Skully.
Great stuff.

Man you earn it ...

You prove over and over ~ you must dig the lot !

I didn't think platinum rings went back that far - obviously I was mistaken. Congrats on all those finds. Have always wondered what it would read (I have an Exp II). Just wondering if it falls in an area of discrimination (pull tabs, screw caps or crown caps) and that is why many are missed or if there just aren't that many platinum rings to be found.

Again, well done Skully.

Thanks...

This particular Platinum ring ...In Digital Mode hit 11 - 01 Solid every angle ( They have the Gold tone ) Low

Do most of you look at the screen?
The Rig will talk to you...Listen and learn..there is no perfect target..
Next time out..cover the screen and listen...dig what you think you should dig...You'll be be surprised...
I dig everything..but areas I Loot aren't as trashy as the land?

Now I have found several platinum rings this is the first without diamonds .....all of them read different...You just never know!

It sounds like -- Small Gold rings - stainless steel - pull tabs .. etc...low...

Generally speaking, Most have a lower tone! Even the heavy ones...

Platinum feels twice as heavy as gold..compared with the same size ring

Great find Skully!
.100 irid stands for iridium. Below is the wikipedia definition and link to everything you would want to know about iridium, but were afraid to ask.

"Iridium (pronounced /ɪˈrɪdiəm/) is a chemical element that has the symbol Ir and atomic number 77. A dense, very hard, brittle, silvery-white transition metal of the platinum family, iridium is used in high-strength alloys that can withstand high temperatures and occurs in natural alloys with platinum or osmium. Iridium is notable for being the most corrosion-resistant element known and for its significance in the determination of the probable cause of the extinction, by a meteorite strike, of the dinosaurs. It is used in high-temperature apparatus, electrical contacts, and as a hardening agent for platinum."

Vewry nice Skully.............:) I sure wish they would drain some lakes where I live. I may have to take up scuba diving if they won't drain. Have you ever tried to find any of the owners of some of the rings you have found? After my last fiascal with the Rose Bowl ring I sometimes wonder if it's really worth the effort. I got to meet the guy and got a free lunch, but if he would have done more with the news article it sure would have made me feel better. HH.

didn't know much about Platinum...very low conductivity is interesting. Thanks again and happy detecting in 2008.
