When I received the Platypus coil, I removed the tape, coil cover, and did some work on the bottom of the coil. The coil top shell was sticking up 1/8 to 3/16 beyond the black poured resin. I used a sanding block with 3 5/8 by 5 adhesive backed 80 and 120 sanding paper. After I wet sanded the bottom with 500 grit wet sanding paper for a slick finish. As the pic shows, it is now smooth and level across the bottom. Now it weighs in at 17 oz without coil cover. I do not use the coil cover. To snug up the rod and coil, I removed the Minelab inserts and streched the rubber washers around the inside on the Minelab inserts and positioned them back in the rod. Now, no
