Platypus Coil

Has anyone tried Coilteks Platypus coil? It is 11 1/2" x 8 1/2". I bought one that I should be getting early next week, to use on my Safari. Only problem now is my Safari crapped out yesterday. Sent it in for repair today. Dont know how long it will take to get the Safari back. I was hopeing it had the same depth as the stock coil, but better target separation since the coil is narrower. Anyone have any experience with this coil? Thanks, Mark

I have one, but didn't see much difference between it and the stock coil. You can pinpoint maybe a little better with it, but personally I went back to my stock coil and now use the SE Pro coil. HH.

I have one that I use occasionally on my EXP 11. Its a good back up coil and does a decent job but I prefer the SEF 6x8 for separation and great depth.

I have had a Platypus coil since just after they came out. It is a fine coil, and separation is good. Like any other coil, it has it's prime use areas. When I hunt scraped lots, I use it or the 8 inch pro or the X5. Depends on conditions. I have the 1000 coil, the 1050, a WOT (GREAT Coil), the 8 inch Pro, X5 and a 12X15 SEF, along with the coil that came with my Etrac (don't know the name on that one). The single most important factor is determining which coil to use in a given circumstance, and then get the coil over a target. I have an XS, an EX II, and an Etrac. Use the coils on all of them.

IMHO, the platypus is a superb coil and I use it almost as much as any other coil I have. It gets excellent depth here in Texas.

What's an 8 inch Pro (coil)?---Never heard of that one.---Do you mean the Minelab FBS 8" (actually around 7 1/2")--or the Sunray X-8"?----Pardon my ifnorance but I've never heard of an 8 inch Pro coil for the Explorers/Etracs.-------Del

hello, use original safari 11pro coil, its deaper, more sensitive and lighter. you dont need another coil. drop sensitivity on pro coil and you will have better separation. good luck and save money for something more useful.
