Ok guys hunting in autotune, been trying to look for past thread and the thread gets either hijacked or goes the other way so please keep it on this subject

Ive been using it autotune then change to discrimination, i would love to do a trigger mod that from autotune goes to 0 discrimination to check id and depth

Sounds like a great mod to me. :)

But keep in mind that unlike most detectors, the CZs tend to go as deeply (or deeper) in discrimination as they do in all-metal autotune.
You do, however, get a lot more audio info in all-metal, especially about iron shape, and adjacent targets....so it has value.

But as far as depth goes, you typically won't gain anything. You might even lose some.

Does autotune makes more sensitive on the edge of the coil? From a cone shape to a cilinder?

Autotune usually is not as deep as ID.....however you just cover more area...sort of like using a bigger coil....get a better idea relative sizing in auto tune...you can't use in junky areas as you would get a hit on every swing as basically an all metal mode...Can be used effectively in an area with not many targets so not your basic mode..Like the idea of a mod but even if modded still mindboggling to check every target except perhaps in those areas with not many targets. Any specific question fire away as we have experienced CZ guys on forum..Last but not least a mod would kill the warranty I would think as Fisher doesn't want anyone tinkering with their units...

Dan is right , not for trashy areas. I used autotune for years water hunting with my CZ-20 and had great success. You definitely get better coverage and my machine didn't seem to lose much depth. Response and recovery is faster. It will really jump on the targets but again would not use it high trash environments.

I was using it with a 5 inch coil it was really jumping on all targets with great separation

Kinda felt using a super traq but with an optionto id

One thing I will disagree with Mike and Dan on, I have found a few good targets in auto tune that would not make a sound in discriminate 0 until I had scooped some sand away. This is hunting on salt water beaches, both with a CZ6A and CZ20. In salt mode at least, I think my CZ's are a little deeper in auto tune than in discriminate mode.

With the old style knobs that have a slightly extended pointer on the discriminator knob, it is easy to flip between auto tune and disc 0 when using the original design shafts. On the straight shafts I've seen, the knob is not in the right position to just flip with a thumb. I have not used a CZ with the newer style knobs, but they don't look like they would be as easy to just flip.
