PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME???????

If you only really need 3khz and up to 24khz which is what a lot of detectors have then why would you up to 100khz with the FBS technology???? I am pretty sure this is the detector I am getting but what is the FBS technology over the BBS and over the V FLEX have for the most benefit to me as an all around detector.... I have read some literature on these but they seem to say the same thing just in a different way about the way they send and receive..... maybe i am more confused than i thought??????????

I use to wonder the same thing when I first heard about minelab and the different technology. The reason I have learned for the 28 freq's is to give better sensitivity to smaller objects and get alittle deeper at the same time. see the higher the frequency the more sensitive a detector is to smaller objects, and then the lower frequencies go deeper. Plus with many different freq's to choose from it cuts down the interference and reduces ground minerals. I couldn't afford a Explorer so I went with the Elite. Its very good but I soon hope to get the best the "Explorer". I hope this helps. I am sure others here with more knowledge will add or correct me.

I got the website from one of the forums, cant remember which, for the US patent office. Its a bit technical but it seems the Explorer only uses three of the 28 harmonics to determine it settings. I beleave thats why Andy Sabish said in his book on the XS and S, that the explorers air test depth would be the same as in the ground. From what i know about the BBS and FBS the BBS's freq's is SET 1.5 kHz intavals, while the FBS is based on the the noise cancel selecting the randum freqs. Im kind of like you, with the detector having the choice of 3 rather than 1 freq id find it odd for it to ever select a really high freq. For the most part the Explorer seems to select a freq closer to 3 kHz. Thats one reason the Explorers get such great depth. The FCC sets the amount of sensitivity a dector can use so it all comes down to the way the processor uses the info it receives. Thats my 2 cents worth.

I do not know much about the tech. part of the Explorer .However I do know it works better than any of the 8 top of the line machines I have used.In other words it is the best in the places I hunt for old deep coins and that satisfies my curiosity,Ray.

The overall BBS concept is radically different than single or dual frequency detectors. The BBS detectors transmit a rectangular (time domain) magnetic pulse into the ground. The received signal waveform is then computer analyzed (in the time domain) to:
* reject ground mineralization. Therefore, no ground balancing adjustment is required.
* quantify the target characteristics into both ferrous and non-ferrous components. This allows a more accurate/complete indication the target characteristics.

One can tell by reading the patents that the process is quite complicated, but is easily handled by modern micro-processors and sophisticated software.

Hope this helps,
Glenn

YES............. FINALLY...... all of you have explained it simply....... Thats what i needed....... now i understand most everything i have read on them a lot better than i did...... i see why the explorer is what it is....... now i just have to come up with the other 450.00 to get one

Thanks all for your info

Take a good look on the classified section of this forum for an SE or one of the older ones. Might be able to get one for what you already have in the pocket. I bought a used SE and a used Excalibur on this forum. Had no problems getting the gear and it was what they said it was. Please consider as the first accessory a SunRay Probe (if you get the new SE Pro with it's remarkable coil If not when I got the 8" Sunray and got rid of the stock SE coil all started making more sense to me). It's an amazing time saver and a work horse. It's even more valuable when you are just learning and know there is something in there but you don't know exactly what or where. The SE is still challenging the heck out of me but I can tell when I learn it better, I am not going to walk by what other detectos have missed. Jim

OK........ thanks for the info I will look into that immediately.......
