Please help me decide Silver Sabre Umax vs Silver umax

local paper has 2 detectors for sale #1 Silver Sabre umax for $150 and #2 Silver umax $200 which would you buy both are in good condition. I am leaning toward the silver sabre. Up top this point the only tesoros I own are 2 compadres (old and new) so I'm excited to get one or the other today.

Thanks in advance for any feedback :)

Buy both! Then decide on which one you like using the best and sell the other one. $200 is a little high for the Silver

Thanks tabman, unfortunately I don't have the cash on hand to purchase both currently so its one or the other. Do you know if they both are wired similar for coil changes?

Coils for these models are interchangable. Both take any 5 wire Tesoro coil.

I second that.

Thanks again, I am waiting for a call back for the silver sabre, I think I will go with it after reading about it. :)

by the way after comparing the golden to the silver here http://www.kellycodetectors.com/compare/?a=143

I see the only differences (besides the coil on the golden) are found on the Silver Sabre, so is it safe to say this(Silver Sabre) is pretty much a "poor mans" golden? :)

*update* I got the Silver Sabre in great condition will upload pic in a bit, now to read up on the settings and go test it out. :) Thanks again for the advice.

I agree with all the above. I like the Silver Sabre so much that I have two of them.

Did a quick park run this evening and found about $1.25 including 3 quarters, not a bad start. Well anyhow here are my 3 Tesoros, the shorter compadre I bought for $30 it was missing the center bar piece for whatever reason, but I couldn't pass up that deal and have ordered the missing part. Silver Sabre I got for $150 (excellent condition) and the other compadre I got for $100, 3 nice machines for under $300 :) Still have 2 bounty hunters tracker 4 and Tracker 3 as well, they probably wont get much use anymore lol. Yeah my cat was checking them out also.

Once I got my Compadre my bounty hunters sat at home. I always found myself reaching for my Compadre. Then I acquired my Silver Sabre and the bounty hunters never went out again. Needless to say I mown own 4 Tesoros and have sold off my 2 bounty hunters. I just wish I would have found Tesoro 1st when I started detecting. Someday I would like to own a Compadre with a 7 inch coil, but for now I have more detectors than time to hunt. HH

Dirtdigger33 mentions he'd like to get a Compadre with the 7" coil. I use the 7" concentric much of the time on my other detectors. Fair coverage, handles trash pretty well and has acceptable depth.

I have an older Compadre with the 7" coil.
Best of all worlds as far as I am concerned.
I think it is a little bit deeper than the newer small coil versions, still laser-like in pinpointing and sizing up the targets, and I can still cover pretty large areas pretty efficiently and confidently...or it makes me feel like I can, anyway.
The sense is turned way up so I can't get within 1' of tot lot metal or fence poles without it going off, but if there is a target anywhere in the vicinity even right next to big metal it will give off a double beep so I am perfectly fine with the way it is.
I have had it about a year, and even though I don't use it on every hunt it has still found me about 4x's it's original cost in clad and jewelry.
