Found this is the Shenandoah Valley. I think it is a belt buckle, but I would like to know exactly what it is, from what time period, and if it has any value.

Thats easy let me guess 8 to 12" deep what you have there is a colonial buckle have found several here in Charlottesville Va. some have dogwood inlay another similar to yours its brass great find love to find colonial stuff did you find it on a farm or an old field? non the less its colonial.:cheers::csflag::minelab::thumbup:
 
I found it on my Grandfather's farm as well as a Hardee hat pin if you know what that is. My dad just got me into metal detecting and after finds like these I think I will stick with it.
