Hello, I have a Explorer II and need some advice as to the differences my New( this Friday) Excalibur will present? Please help me make the process a little smoother. I am reluctant to start with a new machine , when I have just recently gotten used to the Explorer. I want to get into the water.... thats why Im adding the Excal.

Thanx, Mike

Mike check out my videos on youtube under http://www.youtube.com/user/OldeBeechnut check out the VB Max video, he is one of the most consistent hunters that use the excal. In the video it shows his settings and his great style of hunting... I have been using one for 3 years now and still learning. I came over from using the ML SE, not much diff then the Ex II...since i hunted almetal with it digging high tones only, {flutey} and watching the digital readout for the numbers {which most don't} I went right for the almetal hunting style again with the excal, I would recommend hunting like max until you get to know your tones....then get CJC's books on the Sov, and the excals......study my videos and have fun ..what state are you in? Hey, and watch the Beach and Water / Scuba Dive Detecting Forum..........more excals there........questions..Gulfhunter is a pro over there.... Good Luck...Obn/joe

I'm very new to MD'ing and learned a LOT from the videos, not only technique but gearing up as well. I had a question OldBeechnut: Do you know if VBMax bought the belt hook he hangs his scoop on, or if he made it. I like how it is backed by plastic/PVC to guard against wear/chafing. I'm getting ready to do my second beach session this weekend using a scoop for the first time and info from the videos. Let me know if you can about the hook otherwise I'll probably try to just make one. Thanks for all your work - it is definitely appreciated (and well known). I saw it on MLO forum.

Alot of people go to like homedepot and buy the hooks used to clip their drill guns to. Very inexpensive, but you need to make absolutely sure you cleaned them off very good as they will rust in the saltwater. I personally use one and it works great. Goodluck and HH.

Brilliant! Thanks for the pointer. I'll use an UHDP bucket fragment for the backing and a SS U-bolt as he shows in the pics. I like that velcro enclosed chest mount shown in the 5th pic down in the second post. Very tight.

VA Beach grows 'em smart!
