I think this is .44 it is a little smaller then a .45 colt 1911 slug that is in photos too. It is 1 1/2 inches long 1/2 across above the base and has a X in the center of base. I found it real close to the site of the Civil War battle for Galveston. Any help will be Great . Thanks

I got out my cartridges of the world book and judging from one of the pictures in the book I'd say it's a 56-46 spencer. According to the book it was introduced in 1866, it's a 44 cal bottle necked cartridge loaded with 45 grs of black powder and a 320-330 gr bullet. Hope that helps. T. Gardner
